Estelle - Estelles Us Sales Suffer After Itunes Removal

British singer/rapper ESTELLE has suffered a massive tout to the U.S. sales of her hit single AMERICAN BOY, after track record label executives removed her album SHINE from digital download servicing iTunes.

The move by the star's bosses at Warner Music Group was aimed at forcing fans into record stores to purchase a CD version of the album - released in the first place this year (08) - instead of individual songs.

But American Boy has nowadays slipped depressed the U.S. Billboard singles chart, falling from 11 to numeral 37 afterwards her LP was made unavailable on the iTunes website.

The Kanye West-featured track, which topped the charts in both the U.S. and U.K. when it was released, has also taken a blow on the Billboard download chart, plummeting from number half a dozen to 59 in a matter of days.

A Warner spokesman tells the Wall Street Journal the move was made as part of a broad range of strategies "uniquely tailored to each artist and their fanbase in an effort to optimise revenues and promote long-term artist development".

Estelle's congresswoman has in time to comment on the reports.

O'Neal Keeps Her Job

Troubled actress Tatum O'Neal has kept her job on TV show Rescue Me, despite her recent drug arrest. The star was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance after cops caught her exchanging money with a dealer three blocks from her New York home. She claimed the incident was her first lapse in sobriety after a longterm battle with drug addition. And bosses on the FX network program are keen to give her the chance to prove herself. O'Neal had already filmed two episodes for the fifth season - and co-creator Peter Tolan expects her character Maggie to return. He tells BuddyTV.com, "We want to bring her back, and I haven't heard anything about why she wouldn't be available to us. It's a misdemeanour, so she's not going to do time, and nobody has said to us we can't insure her or anything like that. So I'm assuming she's available to us and it's 'business as usual.'"

‘Umbrella’ Watch 2008: Is Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida’ the Song of the Summer?

From now until something displaces last year's "Umbrella" from the top of our iTunes most-played list, Vulture will be judging the contenders for this year's Song of the Summer.

Were the universe governed by logic and reason, the title track from Coldplay's just-leaked fourth album wouldn't stand a chance of being this year's big summer hit. It's catchy, sure, but there are barely any drums, meaning it's hard to dance to, and its lyrics are about a rich world leader being reduced to a street sweeper (or some such nonsense), making it an awkward fit on a beach-party playlist. Also, as Idolator points out today, it's a no-show on Billboard's Hot 100 Airplay chart, mostly because radio stations are still pushing the album's first, equally dour single "Violet Hill." Obviously none of this matters, though, because it's in an Apple commercial, which — since the record labels can no longer afford payola — is probably the last remaining surefire way to turn a gloomy half-ballad by a bunch of self-important British miserabilists into a chart hit. Predictably, it's currently the most-downloaded track on iTunes, at least until commercials for the new iPhone arrive next week.

The OC's Barton faces four charges

'The OC' star Mischa Barton is facing four misdemeanour charges following her drink-driving arrest last year.
The Associated Press reports that, according to court papers, Barton was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving while having a 0.08% or higher blood alcohol level, driving without a valid licence and possession of 28.5g or less of marijuana.
Barton's attorney Anthony V Salerno said he was pleased his client was only charged with misdemeanours.
He said: "The DA's office is to be commended for treating this case the same as it would any other matter; Ms. Barton has received no special treatment."
Barton was arrested in West Hollywood on 27 December after officers saw her car in two lanes of traffic and failing to indicate for a turn.
The actress is due to be arraigned on Thursday in the Beverly Hills Superior Court.

Takeshi Kaneshiro - John Woo Movie Halted After Stuntman Dies In Fire

Production on John Woo's new movie Chi Bi, or The Battle of Red Cliff, has been stopped after a stuntman died in a serious fire.

A stuntman named by the AFP news agency as 23-year-old stuntman Lu Yanqing was killed after fire broke out during filming of a scene on the historical epic, while three others were injured in the incident.

"The fire broke out early Monday morning when the crew were shooting a scene in which a small, smoking boat crashed with a large ancient war vessel," Xinhua news agency said.

Though the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, it has said that crew at the northern Beijing location saw a flame shoot some 30 metres into the air.

The film, which has an $80 million (£40 million) budget, has been billed as Asia's biggest cinema production and features actors such as Tony Leung, Zhang Fengyi and Takeshi Kaneshiro.

Set in the Three Kingdoms period of ancient China between 220 and 280 AD, Chi Bi is adapted from the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms and culminates in the titular battle of Red Cliff in which some 2,000 ships were burned.

According to the Beijing News, Woo was in Hong Kong and not on set at the time of the accident.

Kiss - Simmons Slams Boring Bands

KISS star GENE SIMMONS has slammed bands like RADIOHEAD for putting on boring live shows - insisting fans deserve to see spectacular performances from their idols.

Simmons is convinced that because fans often pay a lot of money to go a concert, groups have a responsibility to make it worth their while.

And the guitarist can't stand it when bands put minimal effort into their shows.

He says, "I admire bands like Radiohead, but the idea of being that serious? F**k that, get up on stage and blow s**t up!

"Bands that stand by their microphones and strum their guitars are forgetting one important point - people are bringing their eyes, it's audio and visual. If you're not fulfilling the visual part it's like watching a movie with your eyes closed.

"One of the biggest compliments we get is (when people say), 'I f**king hate their music but that's the best show I ever saw in my life.'"

The Fratellis, Here We Stand

Here We Stand is a baffling album. None of the dozen songs on The Fratellis second album are awful and it's been efficiently produced. But, really, it's hard to see the point. If you must to listen to mainstream/no surprises, guitar rock, there are more thrills with The Enemy, better lyrics (Ruby aside) with Kaiser Chiefs and at least a hint of sexual ambiguity with The Killers. Sadly, this Scottish trio - personable chaps though they can be - don't have any discernible angle. It's forgettable, mid-paced indie filler of the kind you ignore on the radio and that's all.

Take A Heady Tale: It's energetic, if unfortunately reminiscent of Robbie Williams' Let Me Entertain You. But deep down, listeners will know it's only as good a Bluetones b-side, albeit with a slightly less annoying vocal.

Elsewhere Shameless and My Friend John appear to signal an ill-fated attempt at a glam rock revival. But whereas Supergrass very good Diamond Hoo Ha album recently came over all Bowie, this LP channels Mud, Slade, Wizard and Gary Glitter in unedifying fashion.

Lead single, Mistress Mabel, is at least speedy, catchy bar-room ribaldry. It's the only thing here that deserves to have the success of Chelsea Dagger, the single that threatens to be this bands' career high.

A disappointing record whose lyrical banalities, such as: ''you said you was long gone/ I Just laughed and said alright'', on Babydoll, only accentuate the lack of imagination that has gone into making it.

Pamela Anderson - Anderson Sells Prized Car

PAMELA ANDERSON is selling off her prized Dodge Viper car and giving the proceeds to charity - because she is a "terrible driver".

The former Baywatch babe recently held a huge estate sale at her Malibu, California home - clearing out her unwanted possessions and donating the money to animal rights charity People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

Now the star's beloved car is to become the latest item to be sold off, when the customised vehicle goes for auction later this month (Jun08).

And Anderson admits she is glad to be rid of the car - as it was too dangerous for her to own such a powerful automobile.

She says, "I'm a terrible driver. It's just not a good idea for me to have a Viper."
